A DLL (dynamic link library) is a Windows file that houses a library of functions or data that can be shared across multiple calling applications. When applications use a DLL, they create either a static or dynamic link to the file. Static links remain open during the life of the application, whereas dynamic links are created by applications on an as-needed basis. DLLs can be loaded and used by multiple applications at the same time.
