Adding a Text Watermark to a Photo in Photoshop

Using a watermark on photos that you plan to email or display on your Web site will help identify them as yours. It also discourages people from copying them or claiming them as their own. Here's a simple and easy way to add an editable text watermark in Adobe® Photoshop®.
To Add a Watermark in Photoshop
- Open the photo in Photoshop.
- From the Tools palette, select the type tool and type any text you want to use for a watermark. (For example, your name or your company's name)
- Before you close the type tool dialog box, select the color swatch, and set the color to 50% gray. (RGB values 128-128-128).
- Click OK.
- Resize and position your text to display the way you want it.
- From the Layers palette, select the text layer.
- From the Layers dropdown menu, select Layer Style, then Bevel and Emboss.
- Adjust the setting to your liking. (Recommendation: Inner Bevel and the Technique: Smooth)
- Click OK.
- In the Layers palette, use the dropdown list to change the blend mode for the layer type from Normal to Hard Light.
- You can also adjust the Opacity of the watermark.
Tips:
- Use a color other than gray for your text.
- Import a logo or symbol to use as a watermark instead of text.
- If you plan to use the same watermark often, save it to a file that you can drop into an image. Remember, it's always editable!
