To record a podcast using the Quick Recorder feature included with Quick Blogcast, all you need is a microphone connected to your computer. You can use your system's built-in microphone or use one that you plug in to the MIC jack on your computer.

The following hardware is optional:
To create a quality podcast episode, you should have a sound editor, microphone, sound mixer, and a compressor. Using an upgraded or external sound card will help you create a high quality podcast episode.

A sound editor allows you to record, edit, add effects and music, and filter noise from your episode. It also gives you the ability to record multiple tracks that allow you to keep your voice and the other hosts separate in the episode. A sound editor will help you create a polished episode.

Plugging a microphone into your sound mixer, and then sending the signal to your computer's line-in jack (Or upgraded sound card)should produce the best results. You may want to use a microphone stand and a pop filter to enhance the sound quality.

A sound mixer may facilitate some control for podcasters who are working with a group or who expect to use multiple sound sources. For most purposes, a stereo mixer is adequate. However, you may want to ensure that the mixer has phantom power that will allow you to use a wide range of professional microphones. In addition, some mixers have a built-in USB interface for your computer that will eliminate the need for a separate audio interface.

Compression reduces the dynamic range of sound (the difference between the loudest and quietest sound). A compressor automates sound, allowing variations in volume to be kept within a specified range. This well help your sound level from overloading and distorting, or from falling too low.
