  1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu and click Internet Options. In the Internet Options window that appears, click the Content tab.
  2. Click the Certificates button. The Certificates window will display.
  3. Select the certificate you want to export from the certificate list and click Export. This will launch the Certificate Export Wizard. Click Next.
  4. In the Certificate Export Wizard window, click Yes, export the private key and then click Next.

NOTE: If the "Yes, export the private key" option is not available, your private key is not present or has been marked as not exportable. To determine if the private key is available, view the details of the certificate. The contents of the dialog should indicate that a private key is associated with the certificate.

  5. Make sure that the Personal Information Exchange format is selected and check Include all certificates in the certification path if possible. Check the Export all extended properties box. Unless you want to leave a copy of the private key in the certificate store, check the Delete the private key if the export is successful box
  6. Click Next.
