WordPress Multiple User (MU) is a blog that allows multiple blogs to be published from a single installation. To install WordPress MU with our hosting, you will need to have a Deluxe or higher hosting plan and a Dedicated IP address.

If you have an existing hosting account that is not on the Deluxe or higher plan, please use the following instructions to upgrade your hosting account:

Upgrade your Hosting Account

  1. Log into your customer account.
  2. Log in to your Account Manager.
  3. In the My Products section, click Hosting.
  4. Click on the name of the hosting account you would like to upgrade from the Hosting Account column.
  5. Click on the Upgrade/Downgrade Hosting Account link and select a Deluxe or higher hosting plan.

NOTE: If you use Windows, you will need to be sure to use IIS7, which is selected at the time of setup.

  6. Click Continue to add to your Shopping Cart.

Add a Dedicated IP Address

See Adding a Dedicated IP Address.

Once the dedicated IP address is set up, you can view it through the Account Details for the hosting account. Take note of the dedicated IP address and continue with the following steps:

  1. Click the Domain Manager link in the My Products list.
  2. Click on the domain name associated with the hosting account you want to use for the WordPress MU installation.
  3. Click Total DNS Control and MX Records in the middle column of the top portion of the screen.
  4. Create a wildcard host record in addition to the @ host record:
    1. In the A (Host) section, click the Add a New Record button.
    2. Type an asterisk (*) in the Host Name box.
    3. In the Points To IP Address box, enter the numerical dedicated IP address.
    4. Click OK to save your changes.
  5. In the My Products column, click on the Hosting link to return to your list of hosting accounts.
  6. Click the Manage Account link under the Control Panel column for the hosting account you are completing the installation with.
  7. Click on the Content tab and click the Add On Languages button.
  8. Confirm PHP 5.x is selected. If it is currently set to PHP 4.x, select PHP 5.x. Click Continue to save your changes.
  9. Set up a MySQL Database:
    1. Click Manage Account in the Control Panel column for the hosting account.
    2. Click the Databases tab, then click the MySQL button.
    3. Click the Create Database button.
    4. Enter the Description, User name and Password and click OK to save your entries.
  10. Once the database is set up, click the pencil icon under the Action column.
  11. Take note of the Host Name for the database, as this will be needed during the WordPress MU installation.
  12. Upload the WordPress files to your hosting account.
  13. Run the WordPress install function. Navigating to the page where you installed the files will open the WordPress installation page. For example, if you installed WordPress in your root directory, you can navigate directly to your domain to access the installation page.
  14. When prompted, enter the Host Name from the database into the localhost box during the WordPress installation.
