How Do Hardware Firewalls Differ From Software Firewalls?

Hardware firewalls are an important component of overall system security. Like software firewalls, hardware firewalls protect a network from attack by dictating how traffic and data enters and leaves the network. An external firewall provides security at a higher network topology level than does a software firewall. A combination of both software and hardware firewalls provides the greatest network protection.
