If you want to attempt to capture a domain that someone else registered, you can place a backorder on the domain to purchase it if it becomes available. When you configure the backorder, you set the backorder as public or private. Private backorders prevent your personal information from being listed in the Whois directory at any time during the backorder and registration process. For more information about setting up backorders with privacy, see Adding Privacy to Backordered Domains.

If the backorder is not successful, you can reassign it to another domain name.

To Set Up Domain Backordering

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products section, click Domain Monitoring/Backordering.
  3. Click Add Backorders.
  4. Select Public, and then click Next.
  5. In the Add Backorders box, enter one domain name per line. Do not include the "www" prefix, and then click Next.
  6. In the Email address 1 field, enter the email address you want to send notifications to.
  7. (Optional) In the Email address 2 field, enter an additional email address to which you want to send notifications.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Review the contact information to be used to register the backordered domain if it becomes available.
  10. Click Next.
  11. From the Number of credits to use list, select the number of credits you want to apply, and then click Next.

NOTE: The number of credits in the list are the credits you have available for the transaction. If you do not have enough credits, you continue to your shopping cart to complete a domain backordering purchase. If you have not purchased a backorder, we add it to your cart. To complete setting up your domain backorder, continue through the checkout process.

  12. Click OK.
