Copying Zone File Records from One Domain to Another

Using the Total DNS Control Panel, you can copy zone file records from one domain to another. When selecting records to copy, you can select multiple records and add them to multiple domains.

To Copy and Add Zone File Records to Domains

  1. Log in to your Account Manager.
  2. In the My Products section, click Domain Manager.
  3. In your list of domains, click the domain name you want to view. The details for the domain display.
  4. Click the Total DNS Control and MX Records hyperlink.
  5. In the Total DNS Control Panel, select the record(s) you want to copy.
  6. Click Copy. The Copy Records to Domains box displays.
  7. To allow duplicate copies of records, select Allow Duplicate Records.

    NOTE: By allowing duplicates, you can keep multiple MX, TXT, and SRV records for your domain. If you don't allow duplicates, any existing MX, TXT, or SRV records will be replaced by the record you are adding.

  8. Specify the domains you want to copy records to by doing one of the following:
    • To specify individual domains, select the domains.
    • To select all domains, hover your pointer over the checkmark column heading and click Select All Pages.
    • To select all of the domains on the page, click Select Current Page
    • To clear the checkboxes, click Unselect All Domains.
    • To enter the domains to which you want to copy the records to, go to the Advanced tab and enter the domains.
    • To import a list of the domains to which you want to copy the records to, go to the Import List tab, click Browse, and then locate and open the file.
  9. Click Copy Records.
  10. Click OK to confirm you want to copy the record(s).
  11. Click OK to close the Status message.
